CastingKids fund receives boat show donationPosted on
A portion of proceeds from VIP Day ticket sales at the Newport Spring Boat Show May 18 were given to the R.I. BASS (Bass Anglers Sportsman Society) Federation Nation to support the group’s CastingKids Scholarship Fund.
Show director Nancy Piffard presented the group with a check for $1,250.
“We are very excited to have this type of competition for young people to participate in at our show this year,” Piffard said in a statement.
“The CastingKids Program is nationally known for promoting and encouraging young people to go fishing. It is the most successful youth fishing program in the country and we were thrilled to have it as part of the Newport Spring Boat Show,” she added.
At this year’s boat show, the competition was open three days and more than 150 kids went through the program. At the end of each day, the two in each age group that scored the most points were the winners. The six winners will go on to the Rhode Island State Finals, which are held in September.
