Interlux offering improvement grants to boaters

Posted on

Interlux Yacht Finishes is challenging boaters to improve their local waterfront — and will give them financial incentives.

The company’s “Waterfront Challenge” will award eight grants of $5,000 to $25,000 to support sustainable waterfront environmental improvements in their communities.

“Quite simply, Interlux is asking boaters who say they care about the environment to prove it,” said Waterfront Challenge director Douglas Bernon in a statement. “Clean up a beach or riverbank. Rebuild a handicap-accessible dock. We’ll consider all small-scale projects that could result in effective waterfront improvements.”

Small groups — organized clubs, a group of friends, and a family — can apply now for grants to be awarded at the Miami International Boat Show in February. The deadline for applications is Nov. 5. A six-judge panel will award seven regional grants of $5,000 each and one grant of $25,000 for the best overall waterfront project.

Headquartered in Portsmouth, R.I., Interlux Yacht Finishes is a leading supplier of high-performance marine coatings. It is part of Netherlands-based Akzo Nobel, one of the world’s largest suppliers of industrial coatings.
