New boat sales continued their downward trend in July, although the declines are slowing, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys.
Preliminary registration data for last month showed sales for all fiberglass boats fell 25.3 percent, while aluminum sales were down 17.7 percent. The report is based on 26 states, or about 60 percent of the U.S. market.
Fiberglass boats 14 to 30 feet, were down 31.9 percent and 28.7 percent year-to-date.
Aluminum boats sales declined 17.7 percent and were down 16.7 percent year-to-date.
Personal watercraft sales showed the smallest decline, dropping 17.5 percent last month. For the year-to-date period, sales are down 23.3 percent
“The aluminum and PWC markets outperformed the fiberglass segment in the month of July,” said Aarn Rosen, national marine sales manager for Statistical Surveys, in a statement. “Declines in every segment are slowing compared to the activity recorded in June.”
