DAME donating fees to disabled sailing groupPosted on
All product registration fees for the DAME (Design Award METS) for 2008 will be donated to the International Association of Disabled Sailing.
DAME registration is now open to all METS and SuperYacht Pavilion exhibitors. The deadline to apply is Sept.12.
The donation will be presented at METS as part of a revamped ceremony that will include a new additional certificate for the most eco-friendly, or environmentally sustainable product, to be handed out at the jury’s discretion. This is in addition to the eight established equipment categories.
IFDS is responsible for all aspects of disabled sailing including recreation, training and racing and has members in more than 34 countries. It plans to use the donated funds to compile a set of specifications and guidelines for the development of equipment adaptations designed specifically for disabled sailors.
“It’s a wonderful reflection of the spirit of the DAME that key decisions for this year are so far-reaching,” said METS product manager Irene Dros in a statement. “What better way to encourage boating than to help a charity promote sailing to people around the world who may otherwise be unable to take part. And what better new certificate to introduce for the DAME than one that highlights our universal concern with the environment.”
METS is organized by Amsterdam RAI in association with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations.
METS 2008 will be held Nov. 18-20 in the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre.
