Tropical storm making its way to the Gulf of Mexico

Posted on

The Gulf Coast is preparing for Tropical Storm Gustav, which is currently projected to make landfall Tuesday in Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center. However, the potential track area stretches from Texas to the Florida Panhandle.

As of this morning, maximum sustained winds had increased to nearly 70 mph, with higher gusts. A storm becomes a hurricane when winds reach 74 mph, and Gustav is expected to reach hurricane strength later today.

As of 7:30 a.m., the storm was about 80 miles off Kingston, Jamaica. The center is expected to pass close to Jamaica later today.
