Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle this week announced a $2.28 million project that will support improvements to the Burger Boat Co.’s boatyard at the Port of Manitowoc.
The award will spur economic growth in the city of Manitowoc and the surrounding area, according to the governor.
“The Burger Boat Company is a valued partner in Wisconsin’s economy, and a valued part of Wisconsin’s history,” Doyle said in a statement. “I am pleased to provide assistance for this project will benefit the Burger Boat Company, the Port of Manitowoc, and the economy of the region and the entire state.”
Shipbuilders of Wisconsin, Inc. will receive $2.3 million for the project from the state’s Harbor Assistance Program, and the company will provide the required 20 percent match, or $576,026.
The Burger Boat project involves dock rehabilitation, dredging and paving of the boatyard to provide safe access to a recently installed launch well. The improvements will facilitate meeting production and delivery demands.
Burger Boat Co., founded in 1863, designs and builds custom motoryachts ranging in size from 75-200 feet. Typically, the company launches between two and three yachts per year and has four to six projects under construction at various stages of completion.
