NMMA: Attendance down, sales strong at Tampa show

Posted on

Despite a 12 percent drop in attendance, the National Marine Manufacturers Association reported strong sales at the Tampa Boat Show, held Sept. 5-7 at the Tampa (Fla.) Convention Center.

In addition to the strong sales, exhibitors generated a large number of leads from the 18,450 people who attended the three-day event, according to the NMMA. Attendance was down from the 21,010 who visited the 2007 show, which had seen a 5 percent increase from 2006.

More than 600 boats were on display at this year’s show, with boats of all makes and sizes sold, including more than 30 entry- to midlevel boats, representing millions of dollars in retail sales for local dealers, according to the NMMA.

“We were especially pleased with the upbeat attitude of exhibitors at Tampa and were excited to learn they saw such strong sales,” said Ben Wold, executive vice president of the NMMA, in a statement. “We feel good about what’s ahead and hope the sales exhibitors experienced at Tampa are a sign of things to come this show season.”
