Texas boatbuilder recovering from firePosted on
Shoalwater Boats of Port O’Connor, Texas, expects to be back to full operation in about a month following a weekend fire that destroyed a 5,000-square-foot building at the plant.
The company plans to resume production in four to six weeks “bigger and better than before,” according to information on the company Web site.
The fire started around 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to a report in the Victoria Advocate. It took firefighters nearly five hours to subdue the blaze.
Port O’Connor fire chief Cale Hummel was unsure what caused the fire, but said there was no suspicion of arson, the newspaper reported. No one was injured.
“It had the whole building engulfed by the time we got there,” Hummel told the newspaper.
Shoalwater builds center console fishing boats from 14.5 to 25 feet that feature a tunnel hull design for shallow-water running.
