Michael Sciulla is leaving BoatU.S. after 28 years with the organization to join the American Recreation Coalition as a senior fellow.

Sciulla will be working on recreational policy issues, as well as a National Geographic Society book on scenic waterways. He will continue to contribute to BoatU.S. Magazine as editor-at-large through 2009.

Sciulla was founding editor of BoatU.S. Magazine, the association’s flagship publication, and directed the association’s lobbying efforts from 1980 to 2006 as senior vice president and director of government and public affairs. He also served as president of Boating Writers International from 2003 to 2005 and has been a member of its board of directors for the past 10 years.

“I will greatly miss Mike’s presence and cannot thank him enough for his dedication, tenacity and foresight throughout all of these years,” said BoatU.S. founder and chairman Richard Schwartz, in a statement.

Former Cruising World magazine editor Bernadette Bernon was appointed editor of BoatU.S. Magazine until a new editor is found.
