Broward College garners $100,000 for new marine program

Posted on

The Broward College Foundation recently received $100,000 in donations for the new Broward College Marine Engineering Management Program.

Joe Charles, president of Charles Industries, and the Marine Industries Association of South Florida each presented a check for $50,000 during a ceremony at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week.

The foundation is trying to raise $3 million to renovate the 30,000-square-foot marine technology facility. The school is offering Florida’s first Associate of Science degree in marine engineering management.

Charles, who co-chairs the fund-raising efforts for the program, also was instrumental in bringing in $500,000 in equipment donations to the program. More than two dozen equipment donors, as well as additional cash donors, were recognized at the boat show reception.
