“Whitney will help us better define and position our brand as Connecticut’s largest and fastest growing independent insurance agency,” said Ed Gumbrecht, the firm’s chief operating officer, in a statement.

Peterson will direct the marketing activities for all of the Gowrie Group. Her initial efforts will focus on brand positioning, increasing customer awareness of the company and its offerings, and improving the company’s online presence.

Peterson has 13 years of experience in marketing, customer research and strategic planning. An avid sailor, she was a four-time college All-American, a four-year member of the U.S. Sailing Team, and ranked in the top 10 in the world in the 470 Olympic Class. Currently, she races Sonars out of the Sachem’s Head Yacht Club in Guilford, Conn.

Dorton said he is looking forward to “working with the NMMA to help its members achieve financial success, especially as we move through, and the eventual exit out of, this economic downturn.”
