Portable marine fuel tanks exempted from regulationPosted on
Portable marine fuel tanks received an exemption from a regulation that would have required child-proof safety caps.
The regulation from the Consumer Product Safety Commission was designed for portable fuel containers used for outdoor power equipment, not portable marine fuel tanks, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association. NMMA lobbied for the exemption, arguing that outboard manufacturers would have to redesign fuel tanks to comply.
