Trailer maker closing Michigan plantPosted on
Eagle Trailers manufacturer HLT Ltd. is closing its smaller plant in Homer, Mich., to reduce overhead and be more competitive.
“It makes sense to cut our overhead,” Jeff Harklau, vice president of sales, told Soundings Trade Only this morning.
Effective immediately, HLT will consolidate trailer production to its larger plant in Humboldt, Iowa. Since the company already produces Eagle Trailers and components in Humboldt, it does not expect any delays in production. Eastern dealers will be serviced by SH Distributing, HLT’s Ohio distribution warehouse.
A total of 26 employees are affected by the Homer plant closure. Harklau said the Iowa plant employs 125 workers.
HLT said the consolidation was necessary because of the sluggish economy. Also, it will give HLT “the opportunity to generate growth that will allow our overall organization to become more streamlined and to thrive,” HLT vice president Rod Harklau said in a letter sent to customers.
