Boston Whaler trims staff

Posted on

Boston Whaler, of Edgewater, Fla., laid off around 70 employees last week, a spokesman for Brunswick Corp. confirmed this morning.

The layoffs included hourly and salaried employees. That number also includes employees who were working for Brunswick Commercial and Government Products, which is also in Edgewater, Fla.

“The reductions, unfortunately, were necessary as we deal with a challenging U.S. marine market, which continues,” Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera told Soundings Trade Only. “We will offer assistance in helping those affected employees transition to other employment.”

Brunswick earlier this year announced plans to close plants and lay off more than 1,000 employees in order to cut about $300 million in fixed costs by the end of 2009.
