Design-art students and their respective schools will share $30,000 in scholarships for their 2007-2008 winning entries in the annual Marine Design Resource Alliance Boating Leaders Scholarship Program.
Art Center College of Design student Adam Voorhees captured top prize of a $25,000 Pinnacle Scholarship for a futuristic design of a 12-Meter class runabout that embraces advance technology and materials that eliminate any reliance on fossil fuels. This is the second year in a row the Pasadena, Calif. design student has captured a top award for his marine designs.
The $5,000 Formula Scholarship was presented to Tristan Hipps from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. Hipps’ entry, Olympian, is a megayacht that utilizes a single V-16 twin turbo diesel for speeds reaching 35 knots.

MDRA established the scholarship program more than a decade ago to entice collegiate design students to the recreational marine field.
