Maine initiative focuses on marine careersPosted on
Partners in Maine’s North Star Alliance Initiative plan to launch an outreach campaign Wednesday aimed at young state residents looking for career opportunities in the marine trades, including the boatbuilding and composites industries.
The campaign has three components: a new Maine Marine Careers Web site, a poster and brochure, and a display for use at career fairs.
This is part of an ongoing program established by the K-12 Education subcommittee of the state’s North Star Alliance Initiative. The committee has also piloted a Building Bridges Program that brings classroom teachers and guidance counselors to local businesses.
Other projects of the committee have included working with Junior Achievement in southern Maine and Jobs for Maine Graduates in the midcoast area — both efforts focusing on career awareness. The committee is also working with the American Boat and Yacht Council and several Maine high schools to adopt ABYC’s High School Curriculum.
