Mercury trims staff at Oklahoma plant

Posted on

About 70 employees at the Stillwater, Okla., Mercury MerCruiser plant were laid off at the end of 2008, a company spokesman confirmed to Soundings Trade Only.

The reduction in staff, which followed the layoffs of nearly 200 people last summer, was in response to current market conditions, the company said. The Stillwater plant manufactures sterndrives.

Mercury is a unit of Brunswick Corp., which last year announced plans to close plants and lay off more than 1,000 employees in order to cut about $300 million in fixed costs by the end of this year.
