Writer starts new how-to blog for boat ownersPosted on
Well-known boating journalist Mark Corke has started a blog aimed at helping boat owners.
His new blog, “On Board,” features news, opinions and projects and will continue the trend of step-by-step projects that became so popular in the magazines.
Corke was previously deputy editor of Boatworks and senior editor at Sail magazine. Prior to that, he served as projects editor of Sailing Today. He is a contributing writer to Soundings magazine.
“A huge void was created for the DIY boat owner when Sail decided to close Boatworks magazine,” said Corke. “I’m still hearing from readers who are struggling to find the sort of content that was available in Boatworks. With such a demand for DIY projects, tips and product reviews, ‘On Board’ was born.“
Corke also noted that with the general downturn in the economy, more boat owners are doing their own maintenance.
“I’m just giving them as much information as I can. My philosophy has always been ‘You can do this,’ ” he added.
Corke, a lifelong boater, has authored several books, and holds an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualification. An associate member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors, he has inspected many boats — both power and sail — and is currently working on a book about marine surveying with Norm LeBlanc, past president of the society.
Corke is also the world record holder for the non-stop there-and-back crossing of the English Channel in a kayak.
