Cruisair yacht air-conditioning marks 50 years

Posted on

Dometic Marine’s Cruisair brand of air-conditioning systems for pleasure yachts is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1959 by Jere Crews.

Close to a million Cruisair systems have been installed through the years in yachts all over the world. This includes portable hatch-top air-cooled units for small vessels, to multi-ton tempered-water systems for yachts more than 70 feet.

Crews says one of the toughest challenges 50 years ago was to develop the technology that would survive the marine environment, as well as complement other system installations.

“Since then, technology has moved on a long way, to the point that few boat owners in the warmer latitudes would consider going to sea without an air-conditioning system installed onboard,” he said in a statement.
