Galaxie Boat Works holding liquidation salePosted on
After 40 years in business, Galaxie Boat Works of Jacksonville, Texas, will have a going-out-of-business sale this weekend.
The complete fiberglass boat manufacturing plant will be sold. This includes all manufacturing equipment, molds, patents, tools, inventory, parts, materials, warehouse and support equipment. The real estate includes 10 acres of zoned commercial property, one large office building, six warehouses and two loading docks.
The auction will be held Feb. 7-8, with inspection Feb. 6.
Owner Don Dacus closed his factory in December for Christmas and decided not to reopen the facility, according to a report in the Cherokeean Herald. The boatbuilder had 18 employees when it closed its doors, down from the 45-50 workers it had when the industry was at its peak, the newspaper reports.
“I started this business 40 years ago, and this is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” he told Soundings Trade Only.
Dacus says the recession will end eventually, but he says he doesn’t know how long it will last. In the meantime, the 77-year-old says he “may take some time off.”
“It has gotten harder and harder to sell boats,” Dacus told the newspaper. “I decided that I just can’t keep people to build boats when you can’t sell them.”
