MMTA unveils owner/operator courses

Posted on

The Maine Marine Trades Association released the course catalog for its Marine Industry Owner/Operator College, a program developed by Maine’s North Star Alliance to address the management needs of small businesses.

The first module, Succession Planning and Insurance: A Necessary Evil, was presented at MMTA’s annual meeting in November. The second module, The Business Plan, was delivered earlier this month.

Additional modules include Advertising: Why, What For, Where; Business Evaluation; Disaster Planning; How to Negotiate with Your Banker; The Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss Statement; and Inventory Management & Your Distributor.

All courses are designed for recreational marine businesses, and many will be taught by practitioners either engaged in or familiar with the industry. Courses are offered during the late fall and winter months. Most are a day in length with a few overnights on more complex issues. Class size is intended to be small. Courses are scheduled through April 2010.
