Noted Northwest yacht salesman dies

Posted on

Ray Rairdon, owner of Ray Rairdon Yacht Sales in Seattle and a member of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, died Thursday at the age of 82.

Rairdon owned and operated his own brokerage firm for the last 20 years. He also was active in the NYBA and sat on the board of directors for three years.

Rairdon always had a zest for things that go fast, according to those who new him. This includes boating as well as aviation and racing cars. He joined Sea Scouts at the age of 16 and, when he was 18, he received his private pilot’s license while serving in the Merchant Marines in World War II. He enjoyed a career as a race car driver in the 1950s and 1960s.

Rairdon leaves his wife, Melissa Miller. They had shared a life together for the last 17 years and were married in July 2006.

There will be no funeral or memorial service at Rairdon’s request. Instead, his son, a helicopter pilot and decorated Vietnam War hero, will spread his ashes over Puget Sound.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Rairdon’s name to the Museum of Flight, 9404 East Marginal Way South, Seattle, WA 98108-4097. You can also call Rebecca Tamfu at (206) 768-7238 to make donations over the phone.
