Solid show sales reported in Los AngelesPosted on
Producers of the Los Angeles Boat Show are reporting better-than-expected sales at this year’s event, which wrapped up Sunday.
“All in all, L.A. was a great momentum-builder for our Southern California market,” said Dave Geoffroy, executive director of the Southern California Marine Association, in a statement.
He called it “a very good start” and said boats were selling in all price ranges. Geoffroy said a “Fun Starts Here” pavilion displaying 30 types of boats for les than $20,000 drew a lot of attention.
Dealers also offered some positive feedback, according to SCMA reports.
“We actually were a little ahead of where we were in 2008,” said Mike Basso Jr. of Sun Country Marine, in a statement. “It was a good show for us, especially considering the turmoil the national economy is in right now.”
“I’m pretty optimistic about what lies ahead for us as we get deeper into the season,” Basso added. “There’s no question that people still want to go boating, and it’s an important part of their life.”
Schock Boats also said they were very satisfied with the outcome from the show.
“The market obviously isn’t like it was several years ago, but I think we may have moved past the bottom and are beginning to start the climb back up,” co-owner Marie Schock said in a statement. “We did sell boats at L.A., but more importantly we talked to a lot of very qualified prospects who were genuinely interested in buying a new boat.”
