Broker sentenced for tax evasion

Washington-based yacht broker Ronald J. Sperry was sentenced to four years in jail for failing to pay state sales taxes collected at his dealership.

According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, Sperry operated Everett Yacht Sales and Hanan Yachts and, according to the government, he owed nearly $1 million in state business and occupation taxes. The government also claimed Sperry underreported his commissions on yacht sales in order to lower taxes.
