Jeanneau America, the North American subsidiary of Jeanneau, held a dealers meeting March 18-19 in San Diego to discuss the companys plans for dealing with the down market for the balance of the 2009 model year.
The meeting was lead by Paul Fenn, president of Jeanneau America, and his staff. Approximately 50 participants from dealerships across the United States and Canada were on hand for Fenns message about the companys plans to remain active by investing in those elements that are within its control.
While Fenn admits that sales are currently running at around 50 percent of the normal rate, he sees light at the end of the tunnel.
Sales have been down, but we are beginning to see a definite uptick in activity as the days grow longer and the weather becomes warmer, Fenn said.
Jeanneau, which is currently the second largest builder of sailboats in the world, typically imports about 120 new boats a year of between 32 and 54 feet to North America.
Erik Stromberg, Jeanneaus worldwide product manager for sailboats, was on hand to present two new models for the launching of the 2010 model year.
We feel it is important to maintain our strong presence in the market and have therefore made the decision to speed up the introduction of two new models for the beginning of 2010, said Stromberg.
He went on to present specific details on the new Sun Odyssey 33i as well as the Jeanneau 57, which is now part of the companys yacht division. Both boats will be on display for the 2009 Annapolis Boat Show, which takes place in mid-October.
