IYRS Career Day sees attendance boostPosted on
Attendance jumped 60 percent, to around 200 people, at this year’s Marine Industry Career Day, held Feb. 28 at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, R.I.
The fourth annual event put individuals interested in working in the marine business in touch with area employers. Attendees also learned about training opportunities and attended career seminars that were new to this year’s event. Seminars included Summer Jobs for Teens, Career Paths for Career Changers, and Funding Sources for Training.
“One of our biggest goals this year was to get valuable information into the hands of those interested in marine careers,” said Susan Daly, IYRS vice president of marketing, in a statement.
Attendees ran the gamut, from workers exploring career changes to parents researching job opportunities for their teenage children.
A total of 27 companies from throughout New England attended the event. Several had both full-time and summer positions to fill. A number of companies had no immediate openings but came to support the industry. Other companies were looking at both short- and long-term work force needs.
