Marine center opening in Rhode Island

Posted on

The Franklin Street Marine Corridor in Bristol, R.I., will celebrate the opening of a new building for marine businesses later this month, just as the International Yacht Restoration School launches its new Marine Systems Training Facility at the same site.
The new construction is the cornerstone of an industrial/educational park that was designed to allow students and marine trades to mix, according to Andy Tyska, developer of the Franklin Street Marine Corridor.

Tyska started his Bristol Marine full service boatyard at the site about 10 years ago. The industrial park has since grown to include new buildings with 20 marine-related businesses. IYRS set up a Marine Systems Training Facility at the park to offer courses in electrical, engine, A/C and other boat systems. The school will now occupy an additional 5,000-foot-section of the new building.

The March 28 celebration will include a seminar for students and prospective marine industry workers covering “Funding Sources for Training,” the official opening of the Cornerstone Building, and a second seminar, “Career Paths in the Marine Industry.”
