Safety-at-Sea Seminar takes place this weekend

Posted on

The Marine Trades Association of Maryland and the U.S. Naval Academy Sailing Squadron will present the 30th annual Annapolis Safety-at-Sea Seminar Saturday and Sunday.

Presented by Cruising World and Sailing World magazines, West Marine, US Sailing and Landfall Navigation, the two-day event will take place in Alumni Hall at the Naval Academy.

The Safety-at-Sea seminar provides options for two days of learning. Saturday focuses on large group seminars and discussions and includes a Coast Guard on-water helicopter rescue, and life raft and signal flare demonstrations.

The day concludes with an opportunity to visit with the presenters at the evening reception. Participation in the first day of the seminar will qualify registrants for US Sailing safety certification.

Sunday has two tracks. For the first time, the program will offer International Sailing Federation Certification. Also new this year is a hands-on damage-control training program, where attendees learn how to jury-rig a mast and improvise a VHF or SSB antenna.

The ISAF certification requires a test at the end of Sunday and participation in both days of the event.

Tickets are $110 for Saturday only, which includes the evening reception with the speakers, and $155 for the two-day session. Coffee and a box lunch will be provided each day.
