Some Florida dealers see boost in sales

Posted on

There are signs of hope coming from the Florida marine market. Dealers there are reporting an uptick in sales as consumers take advantage of lower prices.

At the Charlotte County Boat Show in January, MarineMax of Cape Haze sold 15 boats, five times more than in 2008 and almost twice as many as 2007 when the dealer made eight sales at the show, according to a report in today’s Charlotte Sun.

Sales are up, margins are down and buyers have tremendous leverage, according to Gary Ingman, owner of Ingman Marine in Port Charlotte, Placida and Sarasota.

“They realize it’s their time,” Ingman told the newspaper. “Buyers out there are very savvy and taking advantage of a situation that’s allowing them to buy something.”
