Atlantic Challenge of Rockland, Maine, appointed Jeffrey C. Lewis as its new executive director.
Lewis comes to Atlantic Challenge from the Allen Agency, where he specialized in marine insurance. Prior to that, he was the personnel and safety manager for Wayfarer Marine. He is a veteran of the Outward Bound Program on Hurricane Island, where he was a senior instructor and course director.
Lewis received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his graduate degree from the Bangor Theological Seminary. He also holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton license.
“I have spent my life around boats and with others who love them,” Lewis said in a statement. “I have worked in boats and boatyards from the bilges to senior management.”
Lewis will assume his responsibilities as executive director Friday, replacing interim executive director Rick Palm, who will continue to serve on the board of Atlantic Challenge.
Atlantic Challenge offers a two-year post-secondary education and advanced training apprenticeship program in traditional wooden-boat building and seamanship.
