Charleston boat show canceledPosted on
The Charleston (S.C.) In-Water Boat Show was canceled this year because of the sagging economy, organizers announced.
The show was scheduled for April 23-26 at Brittlebank Park and the Bristol Marina.
“This decision was extremely difficult for us to make. However, the current economic environment has placed unprecedented pressure on the marine industry as a whole,” said Robbie Freeman of Maritime Events, organizer of the show, on the show’s Web site.
“Having a show under the current conditions does not appear to be in the best interest of the boating community or the marine industry,” Freeman added. “It has been, and will continue to be, our goal to produce a show that benefits all the stakeholders as soon as market conditions improve. Additionally, we want to thank all of our exhibitors who committed to the 2009 show and assure them we will be issuing full deposit refunds as well an additional credit towards the 2010 show.”
Organizers plan to hold the show next spring.
“We are committed to continuing our initial effort to develop a functional, stable, and productive show that is beneficial to the boating community as well as the marine industry,” Freeman said.
