Magazine editor named to safety council

Posted on

Dean Travis Clarke, executive editor of Sport Fishing, Marlin and Fly Fishing in Salt Waters, was recently appointed to the National Boating Safety Advisory Council.

The NBSAC is responsible for crafting boating-safety program suggestions. Clarke is one of 21 members appointed by the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Commandant of the Coast Guard. He will serve until January 2012.

“In concert with the other members of this council, I hope my lifetime of boating experience can add some additional common sense and pragmatism to the regulatory process,” Clarke said in a statement.

Coming from a family of watermen – his grandfather was a boatbuilder, his father was a captain – Clarke has been a marine journalist for the last 22 years. He also hosts the Sport Fishing Magazine TV show on the Versus network, and received the National Marine Manufacturers Association Directors Award for being the foremost marine journalist in North America.

Clarke also serves on the national advisory boards of BoatU.S. and the Recreational Fishing Alliance, and is an active licensed judge referee with the U.S. Rowing Association.
