Survey looks at boat usage

Posted on

The Mad Mariner Web site recently conducted a survey to gauge how people use their boats.

Among the highlights were:

* 59 percent say they will boat more this year than last year, and 35 percent say it will be about the same.

* Nine percent say they’ll boat less this year – mostly because of a lack of time, not a lack of money.

* More than half say they do 85 percent of boat work themselves.

* More than half say they took five or fewer boat trips that involved an overnight stay last year.

The unscientific Web survey was conducted over 10 days this month and drew 755 respondents.

Though not a scientific survey, many of the results in this survey parallel other research findings over the years.  So, the finding that 59% will use their boats more and 91% will use their boats the same or more this year, is very, very encouraging.  It is also not surprising given the expectation of low gasoline prices this summer.  Boaters are passionate and boating represents the best way to relax and get away from it all, especially in these turbulent times!
