Boat sales dropped in AprilPosted on
Sales of all fiberglass boats, including PWCs, were down 35.2 percent in April, according to data from Statistical Surveys.
These preliminary statistics include 30 early reporting states, which represent about 64 percent of the national market. Only states that currently provide weekly or monthly information are included in this summary. Percentage change is presented on a calendar year basis to reflect actual results. The Coast Guard Documented Vessels file was complete for the period.
Fiberglass boats in the 14- to 30-foot segment were down 39.8 percent for the month, while aluminum boat sales fell by 28.8 percent.
PWC sales decreased 30.9 percent in the month.
April retail sales figures continued to signal a distressed market, according to Statistical Surveys.
Aluminum sales dropped more slowly than the other segments, but not as slow as last month. Sales incentives are having an effect across the country, but not enough to offset the prevailing economic uncertainty.
