Vicem Yachts USA hired Robert Hersh as its broker representative in California and along the U. S. West Coast.

“We have been looking for some time to grow the Vicem brand on the West Coast,” said Michael Landsberg, president of Vicem Yachts USA, in a statement.  “We are enthusiastic that Vicem yachts will generate the same interest and mirror the established appeal it has enjoyed on the East Coast, and Robert will contribute greatly to developing Vicem’s profile in the region.”

Hersh is a licensed yacht broker specializing in the sale of classic, Down East-style motoryachts. For more than a decade, he has represented product offerings from CW Hood, MJM Yachts and CH Marine.

He grew up in Long Island, N.Y., where he operated his father’s 1952 Bull-nose Chris Craft. It was his childhood love of boating that brought him back to the yachting industry, but not before enjoying a 30-year career as a Hollywood director.

Hersh is a four-time Emmy Award-winning television director whose credits include ABC’s Wide World of Sports, Nightline, Good Morning America, the Academy Awards and numerous nationally syndicated and network talk shows such as Geraldo, The Montel Williams Show and The Best Damn Sports Show Period.

In 1999 he made the jump to the boating industry, when he founded his own yacht brokerage firm, PrimeTime Yachts. In addition to representing Vicem, Hersh will continue to represent the other yacht lines through his brokerage firm.  Hersh is also a USCG Captain in California.

Vicem Yachts is based in Istanbul, Turkey.

Atlantic Challenge appointed Kevin “KC” Heyniger as its new waterfront director. Rockland, Maine-based Atlantic Challenge is a not-for-profit school dedicated to teaching maritime skills and craftsmanship through “hands-on” experience.

Heyniger will direct the 12-year-old community sailing program and waterfront operations. Along with AC’s youth and adult summer sailing courses, he will manage spring and fall afterschool sailing, the high school sailing team involving five high schools, the annual Rockland Red Jacket Youth Sailing Regatta and the Short Ships Rowing Race.

He will also oversee the pier, floats, launch ramp, moorings, boat storage and other waterfront facilities supporting AC’s programs and providing public access to Rockland Harbor.

“I am excited about returning to Atlantic Challenge,” said Heyniger, who served as waterfront programs coordinator from 2001-2005. “I feel honored and privileged to help create and implement character-building, life-changing experiences for students in the community sailing programs and apprenticeship boatbuilding activities.”

A University of Wisconsin alumni with undergraduate and master’s degrees in science writing, Heyinger’s endeavors include teaching zoology at the University of Wisconsin, sailing instruction at the Wisconsin’s 1,200 member Hoofer Sailing Club, writing for the Wisconsin State Journal and UW Agricultural Press Service, accruing 60,000 miles of offshore sailing in the Atlantic and Pacific and working for Prock Marine Construction in Rockland before joining Atlantic Challenge.

In 2005, previous efforts at AC earned him the “Outstanding Organizational Support” award from US Sailing, the National Governing Body for sailing in the U.S.
