NOAA offers observations of Port of Lake Charles

Posted on

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration set up a new ocean observing system at Port of Lake Charles, La.

The NOAA Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System consists of a variety of sensors in and around the port. The sensors provide information on water and weather conditions, including tides, currents, water and air temperature, barometric pressure, winds and bridge clearances.

“With PORTS, the Port of Lake Charles will be better-equipped to safely and efficiently move commodities through its waterways, facilitating economic growth,” said John H. Dunnigan, NOAA assistant administrator for the National Ocean Service, in a statement.

The data is available here for free, and by phone at (888) 817-7692 or (301) 713-9639.
