BoatU.S. marina program marks milestone

Posted on

The BoatU.S. Cooperating Marina Program recently welcomed its 900th marina.

Launched in 1997, the program requires participating marinas or boatyards to offer discounts to boaters carrying BoatU.S. membership cards. The discounts include up to 10 cents off a gallon of fuel, 25 percent off transient slips or 15 percent off repairs.

“During this economic downturn, marinas are looking for incremental revenue anywhere they can find it, and boaters are looking for a break,” program director Jim Schofield said in a statement. “We help marinas and boatyards find that revenue by tapping into the loyalty of our 600,000 BoatU.S. members, attracting sales a marina might not normally get.”

Participating marinas are listed in the BoatU.S. Member Services Guide and can have their own Web page on the BoatU.S. site. The organization also offers cooperative advertising dollars, as well as on-site, point-of-sale signage and flags.
