Bonnier lays out plans for Boating magazinePosted on
Bonnier Corp. is planning a bigger, bolder look for newly acquired Boating magazine.
Improvements for the magazine include a larger page size, a new, heavier paper stock and a return to perfect binding. In addition, the company announced its positioning plans for its boating titles.
“Boating is the world’s largest powerboat magazine and the most authoritative voice in boating. We plan to preserve that tone with our award-winning freelance writers, while presenting the information readers have come to trust in exciting new ways,” said Randy Vance, editor-in-chief of Boating.
The changes will be revealed in the September issue along with improvements to the editorial content and overall design.
“We now cater to owners of a broad mix of boats, everything from pontoon boats to 100-foot-plus yachts across our 10 brands,” said Glenn Hughes, group publisher of Bonner’s marine titles.
While Boating pursues its hands-on approach to product, Motor Boating will continue to emphasize the experience of boating as much as the product itself. “Boats are key, obviously,” says Motor Boating editorial director Peter Janssen, “because they are the cornerstone of the lifestyle. In Motor Boating we explore the way people use their boats to enrich their lives through authentic content that active cruisers can relate to.” Motor Boating, he adds, focuses the bulk of its content on cruising vessels from 30 to 60 feet.
Bracketing these two titles are Boating Life and Yachting. Through its focus on small family runabouts, pontoon boats and small fishing boats, Boating Life helps newer boaters learn more about how to select, purchase, use and maintain their boats.
At the upper end of the spectrum, Yachting remains the industry’s flagship through its coverage of premium yachts, typically 60 feet and larger.
