Sparkman & Stephens added veteran brokers Buddy Payne and Bob Zarchen to its team in Fort Lauderdale.
Payne previously spent 37 years with the Associated Marine Institute. Graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 1972, he was a marine science instructor for the Florida Oceanic Sciences Institute, the original AMI program for disadvantaged youth. He later worked as the executive director of Pinellas Marine Institute. In 1982, Payne joined AMI in the boat donations division.
Zarchen joined Merrill-Stevens as a yacht broker in 1987 following employment as a professional captain. A Yale University graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, Zarchen has been a director of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association since 1993, having served as president and secretary, and has been membership and seminar chairman since 1996. He has been closely involved with the Yacht Sales and The Law seminars since their inception, as well as other FYBA seminars.
Zarchen is licensed in Florida and California, and is the author of the FYBA pamphlet “Review of California Yacht Sales Licensing.” He also is a member of the California Yacht Brokers Association and the Yacht Brokers Association of America.

Gregg Weatherby was named Northeast business development manager for Tiara Yachts, while retaining his position as Northeast sales manager for Pursuit Boats.
Weatherby has an extensive background as an independent business owner, U.S. Coast Guard captain, executive director of the 501C3 United Fishing Association and national sales manager for True North.
“With his proven track record and his understanding of our corporate ethics, Gregg was a logical choice for this position,” said David Slikkers, CEO of S2 Yachts, in a statement. “We are fortunate to have Gregg championing our brand in the Northeast region. In short order, our dealers and customers will appreciate his creativity and dedication.”
