Shortened Newport show changes venue

The Newport Charter Show recently changed its venue, returning to the Newport Yachting Center in Rhode Island, and was shortened by one day because of the slow economy.

The show will be held June 24-26, starting a day later than originally planned.

The Yachting Center was the original home of the show for more than 20 years before it moved to the Newport Shipyard in 2003. Organizers say the center has undergone a number of improvements since then.

“The decision to make the change was not taken lightly and it is our hope and intent to produce a show as interesting and informative as in the past,” Newport Yacht Management said in a statement.

Producers have added six yachts to the roster, bringing the total number of entries to 21. The show will feature new boats as well as old favorites. There will also be seminars provided by marine electronics manufacturer KVH and attorney Sherryl Pond, who specializes in immigration law.

The Yachting Center is offering dockage to boat show participants at $2.50/foot from June 22 through 27. There is also a fuel discount to all participating yachts, and parking will be available at the Yachting Center for brokers.
