Tech school adds new marine programsPosted on
WyoTech-Daytona in Ormond Beach, Fla., added two new marine programs to its curriculum.
The new 12-week programs, Advanced Marine and Off-Road Power, are for students who have successfully completed the school’s required six-month core programs in Marine Technology or Motorcycle Technology. They will be eligible to test for Mercury Marine “Essentials” and Yamaha “Five Star Certification” programs.
As an extension of the current Marine Specialist program, the Advanced Marine program introduces students to advanced installation and troubleshooting of recreational marine vessel support systems. This includes power generation and supply systems technology, including polyphase, as well as instruction in electronic fuel injection, marine electronics and data transfer buses.
“According to industry leaders, a large percentage of the higher level marine technicians are baby boomers currently facing retirement. This is creating a large void in the industry,” marine department chairman Dan Scudder said in a statement. “Our Advanced Marine program is designed to enable graduates starting out as entry-level technicians to quickly advance into these higher positions in order to fill that void.”
The Off-Road Power program, with a focus on all-terrain vehicles, personal watercraft and snowmobiles, gives both Marine and Motorcycle Technology students the opportunity to extend their knowledge and training in the growing powersports technology field. Students are introduced to information resources, sophisticated test equipment, manufacturer-approved diagnostics, and repair procedures for mechanical aspects and fuel and electrical related issues.
