National Marina Day roundupPosted on
Harborage Yacht Club and Marina will open its flagship marina Saturday in Stuart, Fla., in celebration of National Marina Day.
Harborage was named by the Association of Marina Industries as the national winner of 2008 National Marina Day and will serve as the national site for the start of the 2009 National Marina Day.
The day will include a free boat shuttle to Harborage Yacht Club and Marina from the City of Stuart docks, tours of the marina and private yacht club, in-water boat displays including a Coast Guard search-and-rescue boat, and land displays by the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center, area boatbuilders, yacht brokers, Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadron, and marine-related organizations and businesses.
Noting the economic contributions made by the marine industries and the importance of marinas as a gateway to boating in the region, the Martin County Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation declaring Aug. 8 as Marina Day in Martin County, Florida. The City of Stuart also issued a proclamation designating Aug. 8 as Stuart Marina Day.
According to the last figures released by the Marine Industries Association, marinas and marine-related industries in Martin County generate $688 million annually to the region’s economy and provide nearly 5,000 jobs.

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation is helping promote National Marina Day on TakeMeFishing.org and reminding stakeholders of the resources available to them to enhance their facilities’ events.
“We’re pleased to help promote this important event that will highlight the recreational, environmental and social contributions marinas make to waterfront communities each year,” RBFF president and CEO Frank Peterson said in a statement. “We encourage marinas to take advantage of all the great resources available on TakeMeFishing.org to help enhance their events.”
“Fishing and boating go hand-in-hand and both sports rely on marinas as access points to prime waters so it made sense to partner with RBFF to promote and enhance National Marina Day,” said Wendy Larimer, RBFF board member and legislative coordinator for the AMI, in a statement.
