Northern Lights Cup under way todayPosted on
The Northern Lights Cup match-racing event starts today at the US Sailing Center in Sheboygan, Wis.
The Grade 3 regatta is sailed in the US Sailing Center Sheboygan’s fleet of Sonars. Each skipper will sail with three additional crew, and the combined crew weight for any team cannot exceed 600 pounds.
The racing will take place off Sheboygan’s Lake Michigan lakefront. Each team will sail against every other team in each of two round robins, before the top qualifiers move to the semifinal round-robin, followed by the final and consolation final rounds.
The teams have been participating in on-the-water clinics since Wednesday. The clinics are led by two-time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year Liz Baylis and 2004 Yngling Olympic bronze medalist Carol Cronin. Baylis is also executive director of the Women’s International Match Racing Association.
