Long Beach show reports good attendance

Posted on

Producers of the 41st annual Long Beach Yacht and Boat Show reported “better than expected” results from the event which concluded its four-day run Sunday at Shoreline Village Marina.

“The show started off a little slow on Thursday and Friday, but on Saturday it was a whole new ballgame,” said Dave Geoffroy, executive director of the South California Marine Association, in a statement. “People were lined up at the ticket booth before our 10 a.m. opening and they just kept coming in all day until we closed at 7 p.m. Our docks were busy, the on-land displays and booths did well, and the real home run was our much-expanded demo dock.”

According to a post-show tally, the SCMA demo dock delivered more than 150 individual free test rides to show attendees aboard a seven-boat sailboat fleet that included assorted Catalina, MacGregor, W.D. Schock, Walker Bay and Columbia models.

“More than anything, our Long Beach show renewed our faith that there are still a lot of people interested in owning a boat,” Geoffroy said. “Buyers came to the show and boats were sold. I think we can take this as a positive sign of better things to come for our industry in 2010.”
