Shipyard receives $1 million wind turbine grantPosted on
Vancouver, Wash.-based yacht builder Christensen Shipyards received a $1 million grant allowing its sister company to switch a portion of the boat manufacturing plant to small wind turbine production.
The newly created sister business, Renewable Energy Composite Solutions LLC, is using the money to get into the wind turbine and hydrokinetic energy component manufacturing.
According to the state’s Department of Commerce, 101 permanent jobs and 99 temporary jobs will be created.
The grant leverages $5 million in additional funding, according to the department.
More than $20 million in grants and loans were given out in the state from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean technology programs throughout the state.
The funding addresses a specific goal to reduce energy consumption by at least 25 percent of the state’s 1990 per-capita energy use by 2012.
