Marine companies expand, move facilitiesPosted on
Perko has broken ground on a new investment cast foundry, increasing the Miami facility’s manufacturing operation to 450,000 square feet.
Production is expected to begin during the first quarter of 2010.
“We’ve been in business for over 100 years and we’re in it for the long haul,” vice president of sales and marketing George Bellwoar said in a statement. “Right now, times are hard, but this expansion will enable us to be in an even better position when the market turns around.”
This addition will further enable the production of Perko parts and fuel system components, as well as custom equipment in aluminum, stainless steel, bronze and zinc.
Perko manufactures marine lights, hardware and other accessories.

Fawcett Boat Supplies is moving to a new Annapolis, Md., property in January.
The new property – at more than 12,000-square-feet – is larger than the current downtown Annapolis location and includes additional space for offices, outboard service and inflatable boat repair.
The move marks the fourth location change in the company’s 61-year history.
“With its close proximity to boatyards, waterfront communities and frontage on a major thoroughfare, this new location also offers greater convenience for our wholesale and retail customers,” company president Stephen Ripley said in a statement.
The company will be closed for one week to complete the move. Details of the timing of the move will be posted on the company’s Web site.

Life Raft and Survival Equipment is set to open the doors of its new home Jan. 4.
Currently based in Portsmouth, R.I., the company is consolidating two existing facilities into one central location on Fish Road in Tiverton, R.I.
The move will accommodate Life Raft and Survival Equipment’s expanding core services of life raft and inflatable boat and safety equipment maintenance, repair, sales and rentals for recreational and commercial customers. Other key services include EPIRB testing and battery replacement, inflatable man-overboard equipment service and immersion suit testing, inspection and repairs.
The new 25,000-square-feet service center and retail store will more than double the service area and allow ample room for life raft displays.
