Sailing Hall of Fame moves closer to realityPosted on
The Maryland Board of Public Works has voted to lease property to the National Sailing Hall of Fame & Sailing Center to construct a facility in Annapolis, Md.
Among the goals of the center are to create an array of interactive, state-of-the-art exhibits and learning activities designed to introduce visitors to the excitement, traditions, science, history and spirit of sailing.
“Maryland is proud to be the home of this premier national facility, which will celebrate the heritage and legacy of the sport of sailing and connect people to nature and the Chesapeake Bay,” Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley said in a statement.
“Sailing finally has a home – a unified place, a physical place bearing the history that reminds us what sailing in its many forms is all about,” said US Sailing president Gary Jobson.
