National Marina Day is Saturday

Posted on

The Association of Marina Industries is sponsoring National Marina Day on Saturday, and more than 100 marinas have registered events.

The purpose of the day, according to AMI, is to show that marinas play an important role in communities by providing access to the water, protecting the water quality, and “doing good” in the towns were they reside.

There are 25 states across the country currently represented, with the largest concentration in Florida, although there has been greater participation this year from the Midwest and the West. Some examples of events planned include boat rides, tours of tug, fire, and police boats, fishing opportunities both on the water and off the docks, boat races, boatbuilding opportunities, free safety courses and, of course, plenty of food and music.

“The plan is that the general public will see and learn that boating is a great family activity, appealing to both thrill-seekers and those looking for relaxation, and that it can be affordable,” said Wendy Larimer, National Marina Day coordinator, in a statement. “The hope among marinas is that these visitors will become new customers.”
