Trade Only featured in two Miami boat show panelsPosted on
Soundings Trade Only is participating in two panel discussions Feb. 18 at the Miami International Boat Show.
Boating Writers International will present “The Future of Marine Journalism” at 8:30 a.m. in room B-115 of the Miami Beach Convention Center. The panel includes John Burnham, editorial director at YachtWorld.com and Boats.com; Tim Cole, executive vice president at Belvoir Media Group; Duncan McIntosh, group publisher of Editor & Publisher and three boating titles; David Ritchie, editorial director at Bonnier Marine Group; and Bill Sisson, editor-in-chief of Soundings Trade Only.
The panel will explore changes caused by the Great Recession, the shift away from print and developments they expect to see at their publications in the next 18 months, including expectations about hiring freelance and full-time staff writers in the foreseeable future.
How journalists can best respond to the changing needs of the boating industry in an era of social networking will be on the agenda. Other issues sure to be discussed include the viability of online publications and whether these outlets require skill sets different from those of the traditional writer.
At 9:30 a.m., a workshop on alternative mixed media will take place, also at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
The speakers will include Great Lakes Scuttlebutt, Avala Marketing, BoatU.S., Boating Broadcast, World of Boating & ScubaRadio, Mad Mariner and Soundings Trade Only.
Those who attend the workshop will hear examples from alternative media providers and traditional media companies offering alternative products and services with the common goal of branding a company and securing mind share with active boaters.
The workshop will take place in room B-114.
