MIAMI: Ranger Tugs builder launches new line

0218_cutwaterMIAMI – Fluid Motion, the designer and builder of Ranger Tugs, is at the Miami International Boat Show for the East Coast debut of Cutwater Boats, its new line.

The first two boats in the lineup – the CW26 and CW28 – are trailerable and powered with a single Yanmar diesel. Designed by Fluid Motion owners David and John Livingston, the semidisplacement pilothouse cruisers are designed for cruising, fishing and overnighting.

Mark Mansfield, national sales manager for the line, said Cutwater has been in development for about two years. The boats are a good answer to two of consumers’ biggest concerns – fuel efficiency and cost of ownership, he said.

“We feel there’s a huge opportunity to build the company and grab market share,” Mansfield said. “The timing is perfect” for this boat to come to market.

The boat was received well at last month’s Seattle Boat Show and the company received constructive comments, which led to a few changes on the boats, Mansfield said. Sales from that show were in the double digits, he added.

Just three hours into the opening day of the Miami show, Mansfield said the boat was again receiving a lot of attention, not only from consumers but also from dealers.

“This show has been open for three hours, and we’re ecstatic,” he said Thursday from the show floor.

Demo Days are planned for next month, and Mansfield said the events should be well attended.

Although Cutwaters are currently available only in two sizes, Mansfield said he expects at least one larger model within a year, and there are plans to continue expanding the line.

The CW26 has a base price of $139,937, and the CW28 has a base price of $169,937.
